I grew up in California's high desert region of the Mojave in the
Antelope Valley in a multi-ethnic household. My Mom, Latina, is from Honduras, and my Dad, White, is from Kansas. And I… didn't fit in! Not to mention, being queer and chubby made things even more difficult growing up.
My teenage years were about my
Playstation,
electronic music,
The Designers Republic, pre-Conde Nast Wired magazine, and the web. I was drawn to weird and
unique art and forms of expression—it was my calling, and I followed my passion. It was salvation!
At the time, not many universities had interactive courses, so I found myself at the Art Institute of Los Angeles in Santa Monica. It was a very balanced education; I was exposed to high art and contemporary art, which soon became my passion, too. I was obsessed with
Bill Viola.
My career started while I was still in school for
Maverick Records, Madonna's vanity label. I had a considerable stint in the entertainment industry, doing print as much as the web. I visited New York City for the first time, attending a conference where the inventor of
Hello Kitty and
Matthew Barney spoke. I also experimented with some video art of my own.
Recently, I've been incorporating more Emotional Design, Psychological and Neurological design to support and validate my design work. Today, I'm working as a Senior Art Director and Associate Design Director.
